Dear Premier Dan Andrews & Deputy Premier and Minister for Education James Merlino,
As the peak body for school students in Victoria we should be included in your consultations around returning to face to face learning.
It is an undeniable fact that students are the biggest stakeholders in education. We’re the ones who spend our days in schools, who take the tests and who are in the classrooms. We have the right to have a say over decisions that affect us, according to the UN Declaration of the Rights of the Child and we are asking for you to recognise that right.
Students have had a lot of different experiences over the last four weeks learning from home and we can provide insight into what we’ve learned during this time – both the positive and the negative.
We recognise you’re doing your very best in difficult circumstances – and we thank you for keeping us and all Victorians as safe as you can – but it is frustrating to wait for information and then hear that other stakeholders have been consulted and we’ve been left out.
Let us help build the best education state we can. Give us a seat at the table.
